Lorne and Marian Hoffman lived east of Stavely, Alberta and raised and bred Quarter Horses, breeding as high as 130 mares per season. They had top notch stallions, including AQHA Champion and AQHA World Champion Sire, Skip Zan Parr, who you will still see on Hoffman’s Horse Products bags today. There were several problems that kept popping up however in their breeding program; mares would not have good heat cycles, the foals would have poor knees, bumpy or swollen fetlock joints, etc. They felt like these issues were at least in part nutritional and looked for multiple years for something on the market that would alleviate the problems, but found there was a hole of some kind in each product. The answer came when they were put in touch with a very talented nutritionist from right here in Alberta and Hoffman’s Horse Mineral was developed. The results they received were staggering and it completely revolutionized their breeding operation. After the studs were dispersed, many customers who were getting their mineral from Lorne and Marian wouldn’t let it slip away and at the customer’s request the mineral was put on the market.

Under the same nutritionist with a top quality feed mill, Country Junction Feeds, the brand expanded in 2006 with the introduction of Hoffman’s Horse Ration and Hoffman’s Equine Performance Mineral. These products offered the sound vitamin/mineral base of the Hoffman’s mineral, and the ration was a cool energy feed with low sugars and starches, using fat based energy. Hoffman’s Horse Ration had fabulous results and in 2016 the Hoffman’s Horse Products brand has expanded to now have a program for every horse with the line consisting of nine rations and two minerals.
