At Hoffman's Horse Products we strive to give you as much information as possible so you can make an informed decision. Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. When you begin to feed HHMinerals it is important that you remove all the extra supplements or they may not even start to eat HHMinerals. HHMinerals has all the vitamins and minerals in it that a horse needs for optimum physical health (which often leads to better mental health as well).
Yes, everything that needs to be chelated in Hoffman's Horse Minerals, is chelated.
Feeding instructions are on every bag and bucket, or view our Hoffman's mineral feeding directions.
HHMinerals have been designed to self regulate so that they can be fed free choice. After having fed Hoffman's Minerals Free choice for 20 years I can tell you that the feeding rate can cycle dramatically throughout the year due to weather conditions, stress, and feed quality. 150-200gms is the expected rate for 1000-1200 lb horse, however there are times when they will consume a lot more and likewise times when they will consume a lot less.If mineral intake exceeds 200 grams per head per day for more than 2 weeks , add loose salt to the mineral at the rate of 1 part salt to 4 parts minerals. (HHMinerals has the normal recommended daily amount of salt in it already)
There is no appreciable amount of protein in the minerals. It is the vitamins and minerals needed to give your horse optimum health. You must add the energy needed from another source.
Top dressing their feed is fine. You would feed them 150-200gms daily which is about 3/4 cup to 1 cup of HHMinerals. Young horses have the same feeding rate due to greater needs while they are growing.
If you are feeding the recommended daily feeding rate of any of the Hoffman's complete feeds, the average doing horse will be getting their daily vitamin and mineral needs. Some horses could still benefit from additonal mineral (senior horses, pregnant mares, young/growing horses, performance horses, etc.) If you are feeding any of the Hoffman's supplemental feeds (eg. ProFat, HaySaver, Crunchies) you will still want to feed a mineral.
The feeding rates for Hoffman's rations and Hoffman's mineral vary from product to product. You can find the amount to feed in the feeding directions found on the bags, the website, and in our brochures. Feel free to contact us on further suggestions on feeding rates.
One year for pelleted rations and for minerals. 6 months for Hoffman's Textured ration.
Hoffman's rations do not NEED to be soaked, however they CAN be soaked if this is your or your horse's preference.
If you have a storefront or an established business, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to discuss with you the possibility of selling Hoffman's.
We take on limited personal sponsorships, however if you have a sponsorship package, feel free to e-mail it to us and it will be reviewed. This is also what we ask of event sponsorships.
You can feed any of the "supplemental feeds/minerals" with any of the "complete feeds" as you will see listed above. However we do not recommend feeding any of the complete feeds together. You can also feed either of the minerals with the other supplemental feeds.
This depends on your horse and their requirements based on their activity level. For general maintenance and for all-purpose use, the Hoffman's mineral is recommended. If you have a horse that is working hard, the Performance mineral is recommended. If you have any questions about what is best for your horse, feel free to contact us.
